1950 Vuelta A Espana: Stage 7 - Highlights

The 1950 Vuelta a España was the 35th edition of the Vuelta a España, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The Vuelta began in Madrid, on 24 June, and Stage 7 took place on 1 July. The stage was won by Italian rider Fausto Coppi. This was the first Vuelta that Fausto Coppi took part in, and he would go on to win the race overall. His stage win was particularly impressive, as he beat defending Vuelta champion Miguel Poblet by over four minutes. The 1950 Vuelta was also notable for being the first Grand Tour to feature mountain stages. These stages proved to be decisive, with Coppi and Poblet both winning multiple stages in the mountains. In the end, it was Coppi who prevailed, winning the Vuelta by over eight minutes. This was the first of two Vuelta victories for Coppi, who remains one of the most successful riders in the history of the race.

The 1950 Vuelta a España was the 35th edition of the Vuelta a España, one of cycling's Grand Tours. The Vuelta began in Madrid, with a prologue individual time trial on 26 April, and Stage 7 occurred on 2 May with a stage from Pamplona. The race finished in Madrid on 14 May.

Stage 7 was won by Swiss rider Ferdinand Kübler, with Frenchman Louison Bobet in second and Italian Fausto Coppi in third. Kübler's victory moved him into the lead of the general classification, which he would hold until the end of the race.

This was the first Vuelta a España that featured the Alto de Arrate climb, which would become one of the race's most iconic stages. The climb was first used in the 1950 edition and has been used in almost every Vuelta since.
